DOWNTOWN RALEIGH TORNADO
APRIL 16, 2011
Tattered bits of leaves were stuck
to everything near where the
tornado passed through.

them larger.
The hood of a car peeled back
from the force of the winds.
Edenton Street and
New Bern Avenue,
main arteries in and
out of Downtown
Raleigh were
completely blocked by
downed trees and
power lines.
Some trees were
uprooted, while
others had their tops
sheared off.
On the ground in front of this
minivan you can see where a
tree had been growing.  The
tornado ripped it from the
ground.  The tree flew over the
minivan and landed in the next
block as seen in the far right
photo. The landing spot is next
to the person seen in the photo
on the left.  It was quite a
distance when seen in person!
Raleigh City Cemetery was
hit hard by the tornado.
